Indian Government is all set to curb the "unrestricted" powers of the Waqf Boards that can claim any property as "waqf asset" and have dominance over it. On Friday evening Cabinet talked over 40 odd amendments regarding Waqf Act especially to scrutinise the jurisdiction that are unauthentic in many aspects.

From now onwards Waqf Board will be in check under unavoidable verification that was unrestricted for so long under the amendments lodged. Similar necessary verifications have been proposed for properties that individual Waqf owners and Waqf Board claim as their possession. Sources report that bill shall be put into the parliament in the next week; also women’s representation on Boards is also included n the suggested changes. Apart from these, district magistrates may be hired in keeping an eye upon the Waqf properties.
